Meeting Minutes

Below you will find the minutes from the last WCAL meeting.

August 20, 2025

The meeting was called to order by President, Michael Pierson, at 6:35 PM at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Waukesha.

Michael noted that the next art crawl is scheduled for October 4, 2025, and that the Board will be meeting the hour prior to next month’s meeting. Part of the discussion will be whether or not to continue art crawls based on the benefits and trade-offs. Michael purchased pins for W.C.A.L. commemorating the group’s 50th birthday this year. The plein air gathering at Frame Park is scheduled for September 20. The Donna Lexa Art Fair is scheduled for this weekend in Wales at Wales Community Park at 420 Brandybrook Road on August 23. As an encouragement to continue painting, Michael noted that the Waukesha Park and Recreation Department offers an open studio. Enrollment is available online.

Holly Lofgren announced that there was no Secretary’s Report for the month.

John Klug announced there was no Treasurer’s Report for the month.

The Vice President’s report was that the sign up sheet and name tags are on the counter.

Janet Knapp announced our guest and critique for the evening, Susan Farmer-Tiefenthaler, and announced that Tom Buchs will perform a demonstration next month.

Nancy Peterson encouraged members to engage the W.C.A.L. Facebook site for the sake of generating interest and inspiring more viewers.

Website and Instagram - Jenna Plyer announced she will be resigning her duties as Website Coordinator at the end of the year and would be happy to support the new coordinators, Susanna Tillander and Peg Thiele, who will be incorporating an Instagram site to the W.C.A.L. social media program. Michael told members that if they do not want their artwork shows on social media to make it known. Otherwise, member artwork will be displayed. Susanna offered to demonstrate to the group how Instagram works in November.

Art shows:

- WRAP show - Laura Haberstroh mentioned we have a venue for the WRAP show at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center and encouraged members to get their work prepared. The drop off will be in early February and the workshop is the 28th of March, 2026. Their commission will be between 20% and 30%.

- Members show - Marie Gunther noted that measurements need to be 36” or less.

- Courthouse show - No report

Michael invited members to touch on new business or old business for which there was none.

Janet introduced our guest, Susan.

The meeting was adjourned.

Janet later announced that next month’s challenge will be to paint a real chair or create a painting of a chair.
