Meeting Minutes
Below you will find the minutes from the last WCAL meeting.
April 16, 2025
Meeting was called to order by president Michael Pierson at 6:35pm
President’s report:
Michael reported on his exploration of WCAL exhibiting at the Friday Night Live event in
Waukesha. They were receptive to having an exhibit without any sales.
He also explored possibilities at the August Art Crawl. A small space is available inside
Martha Merrill’s book store. He suggested sharing one or two examples of the various
media members use due to limited space in the store.
Both of these events are intended to attract new/more members.
More brochures and business cards are needed. A discussion was held. Nancy
Peterson and Michael P. are checking prices at local printshops.
Treasurer’s Report:
John Klug was not in attendance, but all members were sent his report via an email
from Margaret Schuman on April 16th .
Vice-President report:
Renee Couture reminded members that a sign-up book is available for exhibition
spaces.
Renee checked into the possibility of exhibiting at the Sussex Public Library which is
currently holding a mini-show. There was confusion on whether the library hosted shows
but Joan Skimmons said the library does not have space for exhibits.
Individual shows can be held at Espresso Coffee Shop in Mukwonago, the City Hall in
Waukesha and the New Berlin Public Library. Joan Skimmons and John Klug are
exhibiting currently. These venues must be coordinated individually.
Programs report:
Janet Knapp reported that the May meeting will be a hands-on demo of watercolor on
Yupo paper offered by Carolyn Simpson. Members are asked to bring a few
watercolors, brushes and a palette. Mike Pierson has extra brushes and palettes if
needed.
The June meeting will feature Laura Fesser demoing gelli printing.
July is tentatively scheduled to have former board members provide a critique.
FaceBook/Publicity:
Nancy Peterson is planning to set up a private FB page just for members. Theft of
online artwork has been happening. This will help avoid having members’ works stolen.
Watermarks can be removed.
Website:
No updates.
Upcoming shows:
WRAP show: The WRAP show is scheduled for May 17 th . Tom Smith is judging and will
lead a workshop. The topic for the workshop is being planned but might deal with
working from photos.
Member Show at Oconomowoc Art Ctr. : Charlene Southworth asked whether members
wanted a challenge for the show. Most preferred doing artwork of their choice.
Challenge works: Janet Knapp shared the challenge pieces. Members were asked to
modify, embellish, add-to another piece of artwork, not their own.
May challenge: Spring related.
Program:
Joan Skimmons, a current member, was introduced and asked to critique members’
work. She approached the discussion from the perspective of a gallery owner with a
focus on a piece’s salability.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50.
Respectfully submitted,
